Reading cities: Manhattan - a visual diary

Swiss artist Heinz Nigg uses the camera to get a better reading of the places he experiences on foot. From June to September 2016, Nigg will be using the space at Purple Yam to share a selection of his large visual diary created during recent walks through Manhattan.

Viewers are invited to match their knowledge of the city with Nigg's close cropped and playful views of places and things often overlooked by New Yorkers. Heinz Nigg lives in Zurich and works as an independent researcher and community artist. His fields of interest are urban development and visual anthropology.

«I point my camera on landscapes, objects, and situations intriguing me; surprise encounters, the void, signs and symbols of nomadic life, imagined worlds, monotony,

and diversity.»
